Therapeutic Botox for TMJ
Botox at the dentist?
Botox for TMJ can be highly effective. TMJ disorders (TMDs) can cause jaw pain, tension headaches, and other symptoms. Conservative interventions are the first line of treatment, as they can often relieve the symptoms.
Botox for TMJ dysfunction can help paralyze some of the muscles involved, reducing pain and other symptoms. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved it for this condition, so its use is off-label.
Botox is typically recommended as a complementary treatment to other TMJ therapies, like night guards or physical therapy, but there may be cases where a Botox treatment is all that’s needed to get those muscles to relax. Once you get those muscles around your TMJ to unclench, you’re going to notice some other changes too.
